Programs
AIS is currently working on 3 major projects...
These projects are all volunteer-driven, with no current source of funding:
Quarterly Immigration informational Session
Our immigration informational session helps to provide answers to many pressing questions related to immigration laws, especially asylum, permanent resident and citizenship applications.
Volunteer immigration lawyers--usually about four for each session--also address a wide range of questions from African immigrants and other low-income minority individuals.
Our first session on November 28 is expected to last for about three hours, with a target audience of about 200 people.
Scheduled quarterly, our immigration informational sessions will be held at the Brookdale Hennepin County Library, in Brooklyn Center.
Schedule for 1st Session
Sunday November 28, from 2 p.m—4:30 p.m
Address:
6125 Shingle Creek Parkway
Brooklyn Center, MN 55430
Room ABC
Weekly Immigration Clinic
AIS is collaborating with a number of organizations to provide free legal advice clinic to low-income African immigrants in the Northwest Suburbs of Hennepin County, beginning every Tuesday in December of 2010.
Located at the Brookdale Hennepin County Library, the clinic will provide an opportunity for individuals and families to get a brief legal advice and assist with basic immigration forms. AIS plans to serve about 120 low-income African-immigrants within a year, designed on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Details, including schedules and appointments, will be released two weeks prior to AIS first Immigration informational session in November.
Volunteer Corps Development
To sustain our efforts, especially in the absence of funding, AIS has set up a team of core volunteers, to recruits individuals of all professional backgrounds, covering current and future program areas, to commit to working on one of our projects in four categories: one month, three months, six months, and one year.
This project will include recruitment, training and orientation.
For details, please email us, or contact Noble Fahnbulleh at 612-280-4695.
Note: AIS is still in the initial stages of establishing a computer Learning Lab in March of 2011.
Updates on this project will be released in late November.
